Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering with a focus in geotechnical engineering from an ABET-accredited university
- 6 years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of education and/or experience
- Competency/proficiency in performing geotechnical analysis and design using engineering software such as Excel, gINT, GeoStudio (SEEP/W, SLOPE/W), PLAXIS, FLAC, UTEXAS, Settle3, AutoCAD/Civil 3D, and Visual Basic
- Strong verbal communication and technical writing skills
- Proficiency working in Excel and Word
Responsibilities
- Provide geotechnical engineering and design support for dams, levees, mining, civil works, transportation, energy, and other projects
- Plan, perform, and oversee geotechnical site investigations, including subsurface investigations, field and laboratory testing of soil and rock materials
- Plan, oversee installation, monitor, and analyze associated data from geotechnical instrumentation
- Perform and/or support junior and mid-level engineers in completing geotechnical engineering calculations, analysis, and design; preparing geotechnical recommendations; writing and reviewing technical reports; and preparing and reviewing design drawings and specifications
- Provide onsite field support and oversight for geotechnical and earthwork construction
- Perform and/or support junior engineers in completing engineering reviews of existing infrastructure facilities, and preparing associated technical reports and evaluations
- Effectively and proactively communicate with geotechnical and interdisciplinary team members, and exercise engineering judgement, to complete project objectives and meet client needs
- Research and implement technical methods, standard techniques, procedures, regulations, and criteria to carry out or oversee engineering tasks
- Assume responsibility for projects, follow quality procedures and strive for quality and excellence in all work products, and perform work in an honest and ethical manner
- Participate in project management tasks and become an AECOM project manager
- Support project pursuits and contribute to business development efforts in Utah and around the western United States
- Mentor younger engineers to support their development and success
- Build trusting working relationships with clients and colleagues
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in civil engineering with an emphasis in geotechnical engineering
- Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) and ability to obtain licensure in Utah within 3 months
- 8 years of geotechnical consulting experience
- 2 years of project management experience
- Field, laboratory, analysis, and design experience supporting dams and levees projects
