Requirements

  • Ph.D. in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Biotechnology, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in protein science, with at least 5 years in a leadership role in a biotechnology or related industry.
  • Deep expertise in protein functionality. Strong background in protein science, analytics, and characterization methods.
  • Deep understanding of protein functionality, folding, and stability, especially in relation to fermentation and downstream purification processes.
  • Expertise in analytics, including mass spectrometry, HPLC, SDS-PAGE.
  • Successful track record of driving the development and optimization of protein production processes from lab-scale to commercial-scale.
  • Experience working in cross-functional teams within technology, and with commercial and product development teams.
  • Excellent leadership and management skills, with experience building and leading high-performing teams.
  • Strong ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams, external partners, and stakeholders to achieve common goals.
  • Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to explain complex scientific concepts to a variety of audiences.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the protein science and analytics team to ensure the successful expression of proteins via fermentation, particularly in yeast systems.
  • Drive the strategy for protein science and analytics, identifying opportunities for improvement and innovation in protein functionality and production efficiency.
  • Ability to innovate and apply scientific knowledge to real-world challenges in protein production. Strong problem-solving abilities, with a data-driven approach to troubleshooting and optimization.
  • Ensure that proteins maintain their functionality throughout the fermentation and production processes, optimizing conditions to maximize protein yield and quality.
  • Collaborate with the process development team to refine and scale-up fermentation and production processes, ensuring protein functionality at each stage. Work closely with the strain development team to improve and optimize functional protein expression.
  • Support commercial, product development, and application testing teams to ensure that the proteins meet customer specifications and application requirements.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of scientists and research associates in protein science and analytics.
  • Ensure alignment across teams and departments, fostering a collaborative environment to achieve the company’s goals. Communicate technical concepts and results to technical and non-technical stakeholders, including executive leadership.
  • Alignment with company values, demonstrating integrity, transparency, and a commitment to sustainability and innovation.
