Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Virology, Immunology, Biology, Molecular Biology, or a similarly relevant field.
  • Minimum of eight (8) years of laboratory-related experience.
  • Experience supporting Non-human Primate studies and small animal studies, including rodent studies.
  • Experience coordinating, developing, preparing, and executing study activities and required documents.
  • Experience performing inoculations with virus, collecting tissue for processing, conducting bleedings, CBC, general chemistries, coagulation assays, and other clinical laboratory-based assays on animal samples.
  • Experience supporting BSL-2, BSL-3, and BSL-4 laboratory inspections conducted by regulatory bodies.
  • Experience performing basic cell culture, plaque assays (PA), PRNT, PCR, and other assays to support Non-human Primate and rodent studies.
  • Experience with molecular biology techniques including PCR, qRT-PCR, DNA preparations, cloning, FISH, flow cytometry, Western blot, IFAs, high content imaging, plaque assays, PRNTs, and other assays to support ongoing projects.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a NACI clearance
  • BPRP and CS-PRP enrollment required.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a mentor for BSL-3 and/or BSL-4 laboratories as needed.
  • Travel CONUS/OCONUS to support approved studies and/or present scientific research.
  • Prepare and participate in BSL-2 and BSL-3 laboratory inspections conducted by Safety, Bio-surety, CDC, and/or the Department of Army Inspector General.
  • Support 1-3 Non-human Primate studies and 40-50 rodent studies per year, coordinating all study activities and preparing required documents.
  • Perform inoculations with virus, collect tissue for processing, and conduct bleedings, CBC, general chemistries, coagulation assays, and other clinical laboratory-based assays on animal samples.
  • Perform basic cell culture, plaque assays (PA), plaque reduction neutralization tests (PRNT), PCR, and other assays to support Non-human Primate and rodent studies.
  • Perform in vitro testing of candidate vaccines and therapeutic compounds against various viruses.
  • Conduct immunological procedures including ELISA and Western Blot assays.
  • Perform flow cytometric analysis of cellular populations independently on multiple flow cytometry machines in BSL-3 and BSL-4 laboratories.
  • Maintain laboratory supplies in BSL-2, BSL-3, and BSL-4 laboratories, and order supplies using GFEBS and/or DMLSS ordering systems.
  • Provide a weekly Research Technical Report.
  • Manage and safeguard BSAT, animal tissue samples, and working stock samples, ensuring current records are maintained.
  • Perform technical literature searches and assist in preparing proposals, technical reports, and manuscripts for publication.
  • Present work at scientific meetings, requiring CONUS or OCONUS travel.
  • Perform basic and specialized molecular biology techniques including PCR, qRT-PCR, DNA preparations, cloning, FISH, flow cytometry, IFAs, high content imaging, and other assays to support ongoing projects.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
