Requirements

  • Three years of experience performing clerical or customer service duties preferably in a legal setting
  • High school diploma or GED
  • A combination of post-secondary education may substitute for the minimum qualifications on a year-for-year basis

Responsibilities

  • Works directly with crime victims
  • Act as a liaison between the victim, the assigned advocate and the prosecutor
  • Provide notifications and short notice of hearings, confer with victims and communicate the victims’ responses to the advocate and/or prosecutor
  • Provide basic resources and referrals to crime victims
  • Attend hearings with crime victims to provide factual information or moral support
  • Coordinate meetings
  • Provide basic or limited crisis intervention
  • Collect, assemble, organize, and maintain restitution information and case files
  • Coordinate with attorneys, victim advocates, and staff members to directly assist victims and/or obtain restitution information from victims and prepare required paperwork for court
  • Review and determine the sufficiency of restitution information
  • Monitor the progress of restitution requests
  • Maintain a database of contacts and phone numbers for business and insurance victims
  • Redact and scan restitution documents into the data system as required
  • Develops and maintains positive and productive working relationships with co-workers and crime victims using principles of good customer service
  • Work in the presence of or with a trained canine that comforts victims
  • Responsible for submitting timely monthly reports to the assigned supervisor
  • All case management activities are recorded and entered in PbK
  • Refer and/or hand off any emotionally charged or mental health-related victims to an Advocate
  • May have an opportunity to shadow advocates to gain insights into their role (or responsibilities) within the criminal justice system
