Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience as a Veterinary Assistant in practice.
  • Demonstrated ability to complete the veterinary assistant skills checklist for Sr Veterinary Assistant Level III.
  • Excellent verbal / written communication, observational, and analytical skills.
  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Serve to support your practice team, setting the bar for providing high-level, competent veterinary support care.
  • Responsible for implementing the outlined policies and procedures, utilizing integrated technology, and delivering consistent and appropriate medical care within the given skill set.
  • Perform Sr Veterinary Assistant skills to support practice veterinarians, including assistance with operating medical equipment (like lab, radiology, anesthesia, dental), monitoring sedated patients (non-anesthetic), running bloodwork and other diagnostic lab tests, and performing functions that require handling animal bodily fluids and tissues.
  • Demonstrate team support and care for others’ work experiences.
  • Understand and follow the practice’s Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Standards of Care (SOC).
  • Review invoices with clients and manage client communication.
  • Communicate clearly and respectfully with other team members, keeping veterinarians informed in real time on patient updates (in practice, at referral, and under home care).
  • Be proficient using the PIMS and aid others on the team in their use of the technology.
  • Act responsibly given the pharmacy holdings of the practice and maintain controlled substance logs.
  • Assist practice manager with communicating on inventory needs.
  • Clean workspaces after every patient or patient lab sample interaction.
  • Participation in self-development courses and Chewy Vet Care required compliance training.
  • Perform related duties and assignments as directed by management.
  • May be required to work weekends, position may require some travel.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Successful completion of an accredited veterinary assistant program is preferred.
