Requirements
- High School Diploma/GED required
- Preferred Certificate in Ultrasound program
- Registered Ultrasonographer (ARDMS) – within 180 days
- 1 year Radiology Preferred
- 1 year Vascular Ultrasound Preferred
Responsibilities
- Provide direct patient care in an out-patient setting
- Collaborates with the Vascular Surgeon and/or Cardiologist for diagnostic information on the patient
- Performs the full realm of venous and arterial studies utilizing established protocols
- Decides which images to include, looking for differences between healthy and pathological areas
- Determines whether the scope of the exam should be extended, based on findings
- Maintains records that include patient information, sonographs, interpretations, files of correspondence, publications and regulations, as well as quality assurance records, such as pathology, biopsy, or post-operative reports
- Demonstrates safety for patients, staff, and self, as outlined in department protocols and regulatory guidelines
- Observes and cares for patients throughout examinations to ensure their safety and comfort
- Cleans, checks, and maintains sonographic equipment, submitting maintenance requests or performing minor repairs as necessary
- Maintains and orders supplies as needed
- Operates ultrasound equipment to produce and record images of the motion, shape, and composition of blood, organs, tissues, or bodily masses
- Prepares patient, including settings and angles
- Observes screen during scan to ensure that image produced is satisfactory for diagnostic purposes, adjusting equipment as required.
