Requirements
- Valid Colorado driver’s license and a good driving record
- Successful completion of a background check and drug screen
- Availability to work variable hours based on operational needs, typically less than 30 hours per week
- Ability to work on-site or remotely depending on assignment requirements
Responsibilities
- Conduct complete and thorough pre-employment background investigations in accordance with LPD policy, professional standards, and applicable legal guidelines
- Review personal history statements and related application materials for accuracy and completeness
- Obtain signed releases and supporting documentation
- Conduct interviews with applicants, personal references, neighbors, and current/former employers
- Develop investigative leads and pursue necessary follow-up, including home and work visits
- Research, verify, and analyze personal, financial, employment, educational, and criminal records
- Utilize law enforcement and government databases to verify information and identify inconsistencies
- Prepare detailed written background reports and make suitability recommendations
- Communicate and coordinate with internal hiring personnel
- Maintain confidentiality and professionalism when handling sensitive information
- May assist with requests from outside agencies as appropriate
- May participate in applicant testing sessions
- Perform other duties as assigned based on department need
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior law enforcement experience, particularly retired peace officers with investigative background
- Familiarity with Colorado law enforcement standards, practices, and hiring processes
- Formerly sworn Lakewood Police Department preferred
- Bachelor’s degree
