Requirements

  • 5+ years of underwriting experience, with a strong focus on USL&H/Maritime insurance
  • In-depth understanding of marine liability, longshore workers’ compensation, and related coverages
  • Strong analytical, mathematical, and decision-making skills with a keen eye for detail
  • Proven ability to negotiate, problem-solve, and work efficiently in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to build and maintain relationships
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook; experience with AMS or underwriting systems is a plus
  • Must obtain the necessary insurance license within the designated timeframe, if not currently licensed

Responsibilities

  • Solicit, quote, and bind USL&H/Maritime insurance submissions in accordance with One80/PMC underwriting guidelines and within your Underwriting Letter of Authority as granted by leadership and carriers
  • Negotiate and execute new and renewal production targets to support business growth and profitability
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with retail brokers and agents, actively pursuing new business opportunities through referrals, targeted marketing, and industry affiliations
  • Conduct risk assessments and apply appropriate rating methodologies in line with underwriting guidelines
  • Manage and grow a profitable book of business while ensuring compliance with carrier-specific guidelines and regulatory requirements
  • Conduct marketing visits to assigned retail agencies and clients relevant to your portfolio
  • Assist in resolving coverage questions, endorsements, audits, claims issues, and accounting concerns as needed
  • Stay updated on industry trends, underwriting techniques, and regulatory changes by participating in meetings, educational seminars, and ongoing professional development opportunities

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
