University Police Sergeant

High School Diploma or equivalent
At least three years of law enforcement experience
Certification by the Kansas Law Commission on Peace Officer’s Standards and Training
Must maintain all other required certifications, including firearms, first aid, and CPR
Valid driver’s license

Supervise law enforcement staff, including Police Officers and Security Officers
Organize, direct, assign, and review the performance of University Police Officers on patrol shifts
Maintain properly manned shifts in accordance with the approved schedule
Review officer paperwork and compile all required criminal reports for submission to state and federal agencies
Facilitate the training of officers
Communicate with the Lieutenant and Police Chief on a regular basis
Execute and oversee operations for crowd control, surveillance, and security at special events
Advise staff regarding ongoing investigations and adherence to both investigative and legal requirements
Perform public relations functions; collect and prepare crime information and statistics for public release
Maintain safe care and control of authorized equipment and vehicles
Perform crime prevention analyses; survey buildings and facilities for areas of strength and vulnerability
Maintain data required for the accreditation process
Maintain and update all formal policies and procedures for the Department
Serve as the Department’s Local Agency Security Officer
May work special assignments or cover shift duties as an Officer when needed
Perform any other related duties as required or assigned
