Requirements

  • BSN degree required on hire
  • current Colorado Registered Nurse licensure
  • BLS certification required upon hire
  • ACLS certification required upon hire
  • TNCC or Trauma Nurse Certification within one year of hire
  • minimum of 3 years’ experience in trauma nursing required

Responsibilities

  • Monitors, coordinates, educates and promotes optimal trauma care
  • Supervises Trauma Outreach Coordinators and Injury Prevention Coordinators
  • Functions as an expert practitioner who provides for the needs of trauma patients
  • Serves as a role model of expert clinical nursing through advanced knowledge of nursing theory and specialized knowledge of trauma nursing
  • Develops and reviews policies, procedures, protocols, and guidelines pertaining to the care of trauma patients
  • Collaborates with Trauma Medical Director and other health care professionals in providing continuity of care to trauma patients and families
  • Executes and refines a performance improvement program utilizing objective data for analysis of trauma services
  • Works closely with the Trauma Medical Director and other Trauma Services Quality staff to determine quality indicators and initiatives
  • Monitors trauma benchmarking data and clinical indicators
  • Participates in data analysis
  • Assists in formulating Trauma Program goals, policies, protocols, and guidelines utilizing best practice when appropriate
  • Acts as the primary leader in developing best nursing practices for the trauma patient
  • Communicates Trauma Program policies, protocols, guidelines, and goals to nursing and medical staff
  • Coordinates the Trauma Multidisciplinary Committee
  • Coordinates resources and activities necessary to ensure that the Trauma Program meets regulatory and/or verification requirements
  • Serves as a professional liaison/consultant for the Trauma Program
  • Promotes a good working relationship among medical, nursing, clerical, and paramedic personnel
  • Works with the Public Relations and Marketing departments to promote Lutheran Medical Center Trauma Services
  • Provides management of personnel within the Trauma Program
  • Coordinates overall direction of daily activities performed by Trauma Program personnel
  • Coordinates and collaborates nursing educational activities necessary to meet the objectives of the Trauma Program
  • Identifies learning needs of the nursing staff involved in trauma care
  • Develops the overall plan of trauma related in-services and continuing education activities
  • Assists in the identification of physician education needs
  • Participates in professional outreach educational programs
  • Lead and coordinate public education and injury prevention programs in the community
  • Maintains competence through attendance at mandatory and other job-related educational opportunities
  • Actively participates in Lutheran Medical Center’s continuous quality improvement process
  • Ensures self and staff members perform applicable job functions in accordance with hospital policies and procedures regarding business practices
  • Develops and manages short and long-term operating and capital budgets in a fiscally responsible manner
  • Assists in maintaining a safe environment of care
