Requirements

  • BS/MS/PHD in Mechanical or Thermal engineering.
  • 5+ years of relevant Thermal Engineering or Systems Engineering experience.
  • Proficiency with mechanical CAD.
  • Understanding of heat transfer fundamentals in energy systems.
  • Strong analytical skills with emphasis on using and/or directing finite element analysis (FEA).
  • Experience with thermal analysis of mechanical and electronic systems, in space, air or ground environments.
  • Experience designing highly efficient heat exchangers for high temperature applications.
  • Ability to support design decisions with well documented engineering analyses and calculations.
  • Ability to analyze problems and to focus and drive down to the root cause of problems quickly.
  • Ability to make technical presentations internally and to customers.
  • A passion and enthusiasm for hardware development, including working in a fast-paced environment and hands-on design and development.

Responsibilities

  • Design, analyze, and optimize thermal management systems for Exowatt’s products.
  • Perform thermal analysis using simulation tools and experimental methods to predict and validate thermal performance of battery systems.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate thermal solutions into product designs.
  • Develop and implement thermal testing procedures, including thermal cycling and environmental testing.
  • Conduct failure analysis and implement corrective actions to resolve thermal issues.
  • Support product development from concept through production, ensuring thermal requirements are met.
  • Conduct research and analysis to identify and address thermal challenges in our product.
  • Build prototypes, test features, analyze failures in order to maximize outputs – continuously optimizing in order to never leave energy on the table.
  • Create excellent technical documentation – slide decks, testing plans and reports, procedures, assembly, vendor specifications, and statements of work, etc.
  • Assist in recruiting and interviewing efforts to help build our amazing team.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in thermal analysis and thermally-constrained design; computational thermal design experience (finite methods) is not required but highly preferred.
