Requirements
- High school diploma and interest in scientific study.
- Physical ability to conduct field work in a variety of weather conditions and in terrain that can be rugged with limited road and trail access.
- Experience conducting field research and basic data collection and entry.
- Attention to detail and ability to follow protocols and rules exactly.
- Ability to work independently and make decisions that will result in desired outcomes for NYSHI projects.
- Must be personable, flexible; possess excellent organizational and communication skills (both written and oral).
- Motivated and enthusiastic about working in a group environment.
- Ability to change work assignments when needed.
- Ability to create an inclusive, high-quality and respectful work environment both in a team setting and independently to achieve departmental and university goals.
- Must have and maintain a valid and unrestricted NYS driver’s license and be cleared to drive for university business.
- Experience working directly with people from various socioeconomic backgrounds.
Responsibilities
- Conduct surveys in the field for HWA.
- Use GIS applications for field data collection.
- Mark hemlock trees in the field for ease of chemical treatment.
- Assist with experimental data collection.
- Complete and accurate data entry.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with pesticide application
- Experience or strong interest in working with insects.
- Experience identifying trees and/or insects
- Experience using GPS, spatial data management, and creating maps in ArcGIS
