Technician I

Requirements

• High school diploma and up to 1 year of relevant experience or equivalent combination.
• Prior experience in a laboratory setting.
• Ability to work on both lab and field-based research.
• Prior knowledge of safety protocols in a lab setting and proper waste handling.
• Experience with Microsoft office suite – including Word, PowerPoint and Excel and familiarity with outlook.
• Ability to communicate verbally and written with faculty, staff and students.
• Must be punctual, reliable and able to occasionally work irregular hours only as necessary.
• Must have experience working with insect bioassays and data collection.
• Must be an enthusiastic learner and capable of exercising some degree of independence within specific bounds.

Responsibilities

• Assist with research on insect ecology and pest management.
• Provide standard care for insect and mite colony maintenance.
• Support work on basic behavioral and biological assays.
• Conduct insect and mite identification and pest management efficacy trials.
• Clean and maintain laboratory equipment and overall laboratory hygiene.
• Assist in seasonal field research, including setting up field trials (field preparation, planting, and plant maintenance).
• Travel to research sites on the AgriTech campus to record and collect data.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in statistical analyses in R, Excel, or other software.
• Farming experience or experience conducting experiments in an agricultural setting.
