Requirements
- 3+ years of experience writing technical documentation for complex products
- Proven experience with automotive or RV/recreational vehicle documentation
- Strong portfolio demonstrating ability to create user-friendly manuals for technical products
- Excellent writing and editing skills with attention to detail and accuracy
- Experience working remotely and managing project timelines independently
- Knowledge of regulatory requirements for vehicle documentation (DOT, NHTSA, RVIA standards)
- Ability to work with engineering teams to extract technical information efficiently
Responsibilities
- Develop a comprehensive owner manual covering all aspects of Lightship’s electric travel trailer including propulsion, electrical, camping, storage, troubleshooting, and safety systems
- Work remotely with engineering teams to understand technical systems and translate them into user-friendly documentation
- Create clear safety warnings, cautions, and operating procedures for potentially hazardous systems
- Develop troubleshooting guides and maintenance schedules for both automotive and RV systems
- Write installation, setup, and operational procedures for camping equipment, electrical systems, and propulsion components
- Ensure documentation meets necessary regulatory requirements
- Coordinate with internal teams to develop visual elements including diagrams and illustrations
- Coordinate with marketing to ensure brand alignment
- Deliver final manual in agreed-upon format within project timeline and budget
- Incorporate feedback from engineering and safety teams during review cycles
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with electric vehicle systems and documentation
- Background in automotive or RV industry technical writing
- Familiarity with camping/outdoor recreation equipment and user needs
- Experience with visual documentation tools and working with graphic designers
- Knowledge of accessibility standards for technical documentation
- Project management experience coordinating multiple documentation workstreams
- Understanding of manufacturing and quality processes
- Experience with user experience research and testing methodologies
