Requirements
- 8+ years of relevant experience, with a strong focus on technical revenue accounting under ASC 606; CPA required.
- Experience in SaaS or technology companies, ideally with exposure to combined SaaS/on-premise offerings.
- Deep understanding of order-to-cash (OTC) processes and how technical accounting decisions impact operations.
- Experience with revenue recognition and OTC systems (e.g., NetSuite ARM, Salesforce, Ironclad) or equivalent tools.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and project management skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to distill complex technical issues into clear, actionable guidance.
- Proven ability to work cross-functionally and balance technical rigor with operational practicality.
Responsibilities
- Lead the evaluation of non-standard customer contracts, including those with complex elements like combined SaaS/on-premise offerings and multi-element arrangements, ensuring full ASC 606 compliance.
- Evaluate the revenue impact of new pricing models and product launches, advising on appropriate revenue treatment.
- Own and maintain the company’s ASC 606 policy, updating it as new products, pricing models, and contract structures are introduced.
- Conduct SSP analyses and allocations, particularly for bundled offerings combining SaaS and on-premise software, using historical usage data and pricing analyses.
- Partner with Revenue Accounting Operations, Order Management, and AR teams to ensure technical conclusions are accurately reflected in billing, invoicing, and collections workflows.
- Identify gaps between technical policies and operational processes, proposing scalable solutions to ensure compliance without introducing unnecessary complexity.
- Support upcoming OTC architecture reviews, contributing insights into how revenue recognition systems (e.g., NetSuite ARM, Salesforce) can be optimized to support technical policies.
- Act as a key liaison between Revenue Accounting and cross-functional teams, including Sales, Deal Desk, Legal, and Product, providing guidance on revenue recognition impacts for new deals and offerings.
- Participate in contract reviews to flag and resolve revenue recognition issues early in the sales cycle.
- Partner with Legal and Deal Desk to streamline non-standard contract reviews, balancing technical compliance with business objectives.
- Support internal and external audits, including preparation of audit schedules and responses to technical accounting inquiries.
Preferred Qualifications
- Big 4 (or equivalent) public accounting experience in audit or advisory services.
- Hands-on experience developing & applying SSP allocation methodologies, particularly for multi-element arrangements.
- Exposure to non-GAAP policy development and the ability to balance operational ease with technical compliance.
- Familiarity with SaaS revenue models, including prepaid subscriptions, usage-based pricing, and bundled offerings.
