Requirements
- Experience in and/or demonstrated commitment to supporting diversity, equity, access, inclusion, and wellbeing.
- Experience working directly with people from diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in Animal Science, Biological Science or related field; 2 to 4 years of experience or equivalent.
- Computer literacy required. Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheets, internet access, data manipulation and analysis.
- Experience maintaining lab equipment.
- Demonstrate ability to develop effective working relationships with a wide variety of students, faculty, and staff.
- Must be personable, flexible, possess excellent organizational and communication skills and take pride in their work.
- Must exercise sound and ethical judgment when acting on behalf of the University.
- Must be able to adapt to changing priorities, situations and demands. Possess the ability to multi-task while meeting priorities. Show initiative to anticipate needs and act.
- Comfortable with public speaking to a large audience.
- Experience working directly with people from various socioeconomic backgrounds.
Responsibilities
- Supervise the operation of the teaching lab facility.
- Develop new labs and revise old labs to support four major Animal Nutrition and Physiology undergraduate courses in the Fall and Spring involving approximately 200-300 students.
- Teach and supervise students in one or more sections for each course.
- Assist faculty in planning and teaching as well as the preparation of lab material and equipment.
- Supervise graduate student Teaching Assistants assigned to large, introductory laboratory courses in the Animal Science curriculum.
- Demonstrate the ability to express thoughts clearly to develop educational activities.
- Evaluate student lab reports and exams; assist with grading and evaluating oral reports.
- Organize and prepare laboratories.
- Ensure department compliance with regulations on storage, labeling, handling, and proper waste management.
- Obtain and properly dispose of animal organs and tissues and care for laboratory animals.
- Assist with teaching techniques to students, assisting students with data summary and analysis.
- Develop and conduct outreach programs for area high school biology teachers and students.
- Promote cooperation and a welcoming environment for all students.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Animal Science or related field desirable.
- Laboratory coursework in chemistry/biochemistry, biology, or related field.
