Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Accounting, or a related field
- CPA
- Big 4 accounting firm experience
- Minimum six years tax experience
- Solid accounting skills
- Thorough knowledge of tax accounting and tax research processes
- Ability to build and maintain strong, credible business relationships
- Ability to self-start and prioritize
- Excellent oral, written, and presentation skills
- Ability to dependably meet tax-related deadlines and produce quality work, and deal with shifting priorities
- Ability to process complex time sensitive data and information from multiple sources, make decisions based on this data, and effectively communicate the related required actions to a broad audience
- Ability to identify opportunities to streamline tax-related processes while achieving the desired results
- Requires ability to interact with diverse individuals to obtain information for tax returns and provisions
Responsibilities
- Review annual and quarterly GAAP federal tax provisions assigned companies and for consolidated Assurant Inc and Subs
- Work closely with Financial Reporting group to ensure that GAAP federal tax provision and footnote have been prepared accurately and timely
- Ensure compliance with SOX controls
- Identify modifications needed to provision process to account for organizational and tax law changes
- Oversee and review pro-forma tax returns
- Ensure that returns are prepared accurately and timely
- Ensure all elections and attachments are included with the filed tax return
- Identify modifications and disclosures needed to tax returns to account for organizational and tax law changes
- Review quarterly estimated payments and extension calculations
- Support tax department with assistance on special projects, research, M&A transactions, and IRS audits
- Communicate and promote teamwork
- Provide advice, coaching, and training to junior tax staff
- Develop and maintain contacts within the organization
- Tax representative on various interdepartmental groups
- Assist with modelling various tax planning and audit scenarios
- Prepare PowerPoint decks to present complicated tax concepts to department constituents, including the Management Committee
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced degree in taxation, or at least two years tax experience in an insurance company or tax experience with CPA firm
