Requirements

  • a JD (additional advanced degrees and other relevant professional certifications such as MS in Tax, LLM, CFA, MBA also preferred)
  • 8-10 years minimum experience at a law firm or accounting firm; or 5-8 years’ experience at a law firm or accounting firm plus 2-5 years relevant industry experience
  • active Series 7 and 66 (or are required to obtain them within 90 days of hire)
  • expertise, skills and experience in the following areas, techniques and strategies: personal income, trust, partnership and corporate income tax disciplines; family limited partnerships and LLCs; advanced wealth transfer planning techniques; philanthropic planning; planning with concentrated stock positions, incentive benefits, non-qualified stock options, incentive stock options, and restricted stock
  • expertise in building or reviewing spreadsheets to model cash flows and income tax consequences based on current and recommended planning
  • significant experience working with ultra-high net worth clients and family offices
  • strong collaboration skills working with internal estate planning attorneys to provide comprehensive tax advice to clients
  • a network to participate in external activities that raise the profile of UBS Wealth Management in the ultra-high net worth market, particularly among attorneys and accountants as centers of influence
  • skilled at working with a high degree of autonomy, setting priorities and managing deadlines
  • organized, strong project coordination skills, team player, enthusiastic, positive, polished, poised and professional, self-motivated, and proactive

Responsibilities

  • research and analyze individual, corporate and partnership income tax issues for UHNW clients.
  • provide insight on clients’ current entity structures, family businesses, corporate tax issues and philanthropic strategies.
  • review and analyze sophisticated models of tax planning and philanthropic strategies for clients, incorporating federal and state income and estate tax consequences.
  • independently review and summarize planning documents (e.g., deal structures, operating agreements, equity compensation arrangements, etc.) to create an analysis of current planning strategies and provide feedback and recommendations.
  • think critically about a client’s assets and liabilities to educate a client about their options from a tax and planning standpoint.
  • interact with clients, senior strategists, financial advisors, product areas, vendors and field experts
