Requirements

  • 5-7 years of experience; public accounting firm, law firm, or large corporate tax department experience preferred. Experience with tax controversy desired.
  • Juris Doctorate required (state bar member preferred)
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills required.
  • Excellent tax research and analytical skills.
  • Ability to work in a team environment required.
  • Proficient in Office 365 and online tax research tools.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate federal, state, and local audit strategy and planning from inception to conclusion.
  • Manage all aspects of state and local tax exams, including data collection, responding to information requests, tracking statute of limitations, providing technical advice on practice and procedure matters, and communicating with examination teams as well as outside consultants.
  • Respond to state and local notices by researching and drafting responses to notices by federal, state, and local taxing authorities.
  • Monitor the tax department notice tracker to ensure timely responses, identify trends, and recommend process changes based on trends identified.
  • Advise on tax implications of retail operations, including e-commerce, brick-and-mortar stores, and supply chain management.
  • Model and analyze the impact of proposed audit adjustments and assist with accruals related to adjustments.
  • Collaborate with Accounting, Legal, Treasury and other functional groups within the Company.
  • Support state filing positions by monitoring, researching, and analyzing existing and proposed state tax legislation.
  • Research income tax issues to support filing positions taken or to explore tax planning opportunities.
  • Support department’s efforts related to direct data access and technology implementation by the company.
  • Assist with other special projects and day to day state issues that surface.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with tax controversy desired.
