Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in an Engineering, Science, or other technical related field
  • 2+ years of experience as a Systems Safety Engineer in the human spaceflight field with experience working with the NASA Safety Review Panel (SRP)
  • Experience developing and reviewing hazard analyses, fault trees, and safety assessments
  • Analyzing and evaluating flight systems to identify hazards and propose actions to mitigate hazards
  • Planning, performing analyses, and reporting results
  • A broad background in space systems engineering including an understanding of space vehicle design, space system architecture development, ground systems support, payloads, and space missions and operations development
  • Detailed knowledge of human spaceflight subsystems and functions
  • Must be able to complete a U.S. government background investigation
  • Proof of U.S. Citizenship or US Permanent Residency is a requirement for this position.

Responsibilities

  • Conducting system level hazard analysis for the Axiom Station, Axiom Exploration Extravehicular Activity System (AxEVAS) or payloads on Private Astronaut Missions to the ISS
  • Conducting safety analyses/documenting results (preliminary hazard analysis, system hazard analysis, hazard tracking, functional hazard assessment, fault tree analysis (FTA), and real-time safety assessments)
  • Generation of hazard reports, defining hazard causes and their mitigation/control strategies
  • Assist with the definition and maintenance of system level control strategies, including fault detection, isolation and recovery (FDIR) strategies, hazardous mitigation, and system
  • Participate in and support the system safety working groups, Safety Review Panels, technical interchange and change review board meetings
  • Coordinating with verification and validation (V&V) personnel to ensure safety-critical requirements are tested at an acceptable level of rigor
  • Perform anomaly and nonconformance analysis, tracking and resolution verification
  • Develop S&MA reports/presentations to S&MA and program leadership
  • Provide support to all Axiom programs as required
  • Prepare technical documentation and presentations for peers, management, and external customers and partners.
  • Performs other duties as assigned
