Requirements
- High School Diploma/GED
- 1 year Operating Room/Surgery Surgical Technologist experience
- Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) certification
- Basic Life Support (required within 90 days)
Responsibilities
- Assists in the clean up of surgical environment after a procedure
- Assists in transporting patients, as required
- Assists with handling specimens in accordance with unit policy and procedure, as required
- Maintains awareness of items that require counts and assists the circulating nurse with the count process
- Measures and passes medications, hemostatic agents and irrigation solutions utilized during the surgical procedure
- Participates in the surgical site and patient verification during the time out the procedure to ensure correct patient and site
- Prepares for surgical procedures by obtaining appropriate instruments, supplies and equipment and appropriate records for specific surgical procedures; opens surgical supplies/equipment, cleans and prepares instruments for sterilization process and restocks pre-operative carts
- Provides a safe procedural environment by recognizing and responding to life-threatening situations
- Scrubs basic surgical and some complex procedures for general, orthopedic, ob/gyn, genitourinary, otorhinolaryngology, neurosurgical procedures, and other surgical procedures.
