Requirements
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification for healthcare providers.
- Completion of an accredited Operating Room Technician program (ORT)
- Or graduated from a non-accredited surgical tech program within the past six months, but not currently eligible to sit for Tech in Surgery exam (NCCT)
- Or two years of scrub tech experience in hospital or military surgical services within the last three years.
- Or International training equivalent and legally authorized to work in the United States.
- Competent in Basic Procedures or 1 or more specialty areas and/or facility case mix (for Level II).
- Competent in Basic Procedures and 2 or more specialty areas such as (Ortho, Robotics, Neuro, CV, Trauma, Transplant, Reimplants) and/or facility case mix (for Level III).
- Able to take assigned call (for Level II and III).
- Must be in good standing (for Level II and III).
Responsibilities
- Ensuring the operating room and all surgical items meet sterilization criteria.
- Maintaining the sterile field and a safe environment, recognizing and addressing sharps and fire safety processes.
- Preparing the operating room and instruments for the surgical procedure, and may assist with sterile processing.
- Assisting the surgeon(s) during the procedure while staying within the Surgical Technologist scope of practice.
- Identifying emergency situations and exercising judgment when implementing procedures to respond to emergencies.
- Assisting with room turnover, cleaning, and preparing for the next procedure.
Preferred Qualifications
- Surgical Technologist with CVOR, Neuro, and Transplant experience
- Active National Certification as an OR Tech in Surgery or Certified Surgical Technologist. Certification is expected within the timeframe outlined.
