Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from accredited program
- Minimum 7 years related experience (completion of master’s degree in related field may be substituted for one year of experience)
- Proficiency with National Electrical Safety Code and IEEE / ANSI Standards
- Knowledge of computer drafting tools such as AutoCAD preferred
- Excellent written & verbal communication skills
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Capability of solving difficult problems that require adaptation and modification of standard approaches, techniques, procedures, and criteria.
Responsibilities
- Develop scopes of work, conceptual designs, and execution plans
- Prepare engineering cost and man-hour estimates and schedules
- Physical substation design including yard layouts, plans, and details, grounding plan, lightning protection, control building, exterior raceway systems, and develop complete bills of material
- Arrangement of substation structure elements, and associate equipment and their foundations
- Develop section views and other detail drawings that show structures, prepare equipment and bus work installation drawings
- Ground grid design plan and equipment/structure grounding details
- System sizing studies
- Prepare calculations for studies and reports (grounding, lighting protection, insulation coordination studies, etc.)
- Prepare equipment specifications for procurement and participate in factory acceptance testing
- Coordinate design activities with other departments (Civil/Structural, Networks, Transmission Line, etc.)
- Provide guidance and mentoring to less experienced team members
- Regularly meet and correspond with clients or outside personnel
- Provide short term field support during construction
Preferred Qualifications
- Professional Engineer (PE) is preferred
- Knowledge of computer drafting tools such as AutoCAD preferred
