Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering (mechanical/civil/structural preferred) in a program accredited by ABET
  • Individuals with a Master’s degree in engineering from an engineering program accredited by ABET may be considered for entry into the organization at this level
  • Acceptable alternatives include: Bachelor’s degree in engineering (non-ABET), plus a Professional Engineers (PE) license in any state of the U.S. or Bachelor’s degree in engineering (non-ABET) plus a Master’s degree or PhD in engineering from a university with an ABET accredited Bachelor’s program.

Responsibilities

  • Perform calculations for new and revised standard steel structures and foundations.
  • Prepare structural standards application and design guideline documents.
  • Provide QA/QC on structure and foundation drawing creation.
  • Provide structural engineering support for substation capital projects.
  • Develop design alternatives and cost estimates for proposed standards.
  • Work effectively with internal and external customers, and contractors.
  • Work with Substation production design teams, Protection and Control Standards, Transmission Line Design Standards, Distribution, Supply Chain and others as needed for successful completion of duties.
  • Supervise and review work of outside consultants as needed.
  • Provide leadership and training of personnel as the subject matter expert in assigned area(s), or as otherwise requested.
  • Participate in the development of plans establishing measurable goals, objectives, and requirements relative to specific area of responsibility.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Working knowledge of current industry standards such as ASCE, ACI, AISC, AWS, and NESC (National Electrical Safety Code) Code is desired.
