Requirements
- US Citizen
- Associates degree in an engineering discipline or demonstrated equivalent experience
- 8+ years of relevant experience with Bachelor’s degree; 5+ years of relevant experience with Masters degree
- Capability with 2D and/or 3D plant design
- Good oral and written communication skills
- Working knowledge of word-processing and integrated software applications
- Organizational skills and ability to perform detail-oriented work are required
- Position may require the ability to pass and maintain a Security Clearance
- Position may require travel
- Heavy industrial structural steel and concrete design experience
- In depth knowledge of design development, drawing preparation, and checking procedures
- In depth knowledge of general 3D plant design modeling software
- In depth knowledge of AutoCAD or other general plant modeling/drafting CAD software platform
- Working knowledge of engineering calculations and information required on design drawings
- Basic knowledge of the project change control process
Responsibilities
- Under minimal supervision, may develop complex engineering drawings
- Applies a solid level of understanding within a specific discipline
- Understands codes, permits, and software applications related to the discipline
- Fully understands the process of preparing designs and drawings using project specifications and discipline-associated written and verbal instructions in accordance with established design practices
- Basic understanding of engineer’s process of performing and verifying design calculations to support the overall project design
- Fully understands the purpose and use of vendor documents and reviews discipline supplier documents for accuracy
- Can also review other discipline’s supplier documents
- Fully understands the use of requisitions and the role of materials management, and can review/advise on purchase orders and subcontracts
- Collects data on manpower, man-hour, and labor costs requirements for design staff to aid in evaluating the budget
- Intermediate knowledge of cost estimating methods and performs material take-offs for the discipline
- Intermediate knowledge of discipline’s materials costs and concept of cost analysis and forecasting
- Basic knowledge of the project change control process and can identify a potential change
- Fully understands the discipline’s equipment and material lists
- May provide technical guidance to less experienced design staff
- Coordinates work with that of others in discipline group and other discipline groups on the project
- Prepares complete information for design details, bill of materials, etc., that can be distributed to other design or draft personnel for completion
- Advises the Design Supervisor, Lead Designer or Supervising Discipline Engineer about status of assignment(s) with respect to schedule, budgets, delays and adverse problems
- Provides technical guidance and assistance to other design and draft personnel and is responsible for neatness and accuracy of work
- Ensures quality, quantity and completeness of the assigned design tasks
- Keeps proper files and records related to assigned design activities
- Continually upgrades technical knowledge and capabilities and pursues additional coursework and training
- Perform all other position related duties as assigned or requested
Preferred Qualifications
- Associates Degree in computer aided drafting with a structural emphasis or equivalent experience
- Working knowledge of Microstation and OpenPlant software
- Working knowledge of Tekla Structures including advanced coursework
- Working knowledge of building and major equipment foundation systems
- Working knowledge of model interference detection and resolution
- Reinforced concrete mat and slab experience
- DOE/DOD project experience
