Requirements

  • B.S. degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering
  • 6+ years of structural analysis experience with aircraft, spacecraft, launch vehicle structures or automotive
  • Demonstrated knowledge of vehicle load path and stress analysis of metallic and/or composite structures (pressure vessels, skin-stringer, fittings, sandwich panels, etc.)
  • Familiarity with classical aerospace sizing methods (Bruhn, Niu, Roark, etc.)
  • Knowledge of engineering materials and their applications to achieve optimal structures
  • Experience with at least two of the following analysis codes: Nastran, Ansys, Abaqus, LS-Dyna, Optistruct, NASGRO
  • Demonstrated experience using scripting languages (VBA, Matlab, Python, FORTRAN, etc.)
  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum

Responsibilities

  • Perform analysis on primary and secondary tank structures using classic hand calculations as well as Finite Element Model (FEM) simulations to support design, manufacturing and operations
  • Create analysis documentation that is concise and accurate
  • Perform peer reviews of analysis and reports generated by other team members
  • Provide structural analysis guidance to design engineers as well as junior structural analysts
  • Support production issues, ongoing testing and mission operations

Preferred Qualifications

  • MS degree in engineering or equivalent
  • Experience in large scale structural test and instrumentation
  • Proficiency with ANSYS Mechanical Strongly desired
  • Working knowledge of linear-elastic fracture mechanics fundamentals
  • Working knowledge of MATLAB
