Requirements
- Typically requires a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Systems, Software, or Aerospace). Master’s Degree is a plus.
- At least 12 years of progressive engineering experience, with at least 8 years of leading or supporting development projects. Specific experience in several full life cycles of programs as well as several different product types is a plus.
- Experience interfacing with customers and demonstrated strong verbal and written communication skills. Must be comfortable working in undefined scope/requirements and capable of ‘steering’ the customer.
- Demonstrated leadership skills and the ability to mentor and coach other engineers.
- A proven track record of effectively guiding cross-functional teams through multiple stages of a development program, ensuring timely delivery and high-quality outcomes.
Responsibilities
- Support the full lifecycle of the program, with a heavy emphasis on two areas: (1) ensuring development programs are well-positioned for deterministic execution with technically sound initial assumptions, risk balancing, and structures in place for effective change management; (2) providing technical direction to the customers as Moog navigates ambiguous requirements. Ensuring that Moog is positioned well for system content while still satisfying the mission needs of our customers; and (3) provide support for any DVT, qualification, flight test, and early production problems as the main TPOC.
- Maintain accountability to the Staff Engineering Manager for adherence to baselined plans from technical, scope, budget, and schedule perspectives. She/he is also accountable, from a technical perspective, for supporting the PM’s in leading and validating Estimation-at-Complete (EAC) activities, variance explanations, and Return-to-Green (RTG) planning as needed.
- Ensure technical solutions and initiatives are fully integrated into business objectives, priorities, and technology roadmaps, by aligning closely with division and site leadership to assess present and future business needs and direction.
- Act in full coordination with Functional Engineering, Product Engineering, the Office of Chief Engineers, and Business Unit/Program leadership to ensure New Product Introduction (NPI) efforts are planned and executed successfully, effectively managed through production ramp-up challenges, and sustained through the entire production run. This will also involve multiple SDG site interactions for resource support and product support.
- Deliver on the technical, scope, budget, and schedule commitments made to our customers for development and production programs. Have a deep understanding of earned value management (EVM) techniques and project management fundamentals like critical path analysis, risk/scope/change management, product cost vs. price, etc. Strong Ability to be the technical lead across multiple products (actuators, controllers, thrusters, batteries, etc.).
- Reduce the potential for product quality issues before they impact a customer, thereby maintaining the customer’s confidence in Moog as a critical partner.
- Support the business development team in preparing and sometimes leading successful proposals, cost estimates, and shoulder the responsibility for writing the technical volume.
- Establish relationships with customer and Moog networks built on trust and competence. Maintain good emotional intelligence, deliver clear and transparent communication, and actively listen to the “voice of the customer”.
- Demonstrate effective “systems thinking” and the ability to understand how technical performance, producibility and product quality, business considerations, and customer needs all must be balanced.
- Provide technical perspective and guidance regarding potential business decisions that may have long-term financial or strategic impact. Be a key influencer in driving the group’s efforts to increase profitability.
- Maintain awareness of customer and Moog technology roadmaps and be a key influencer in aligning efforts to meet future customer needs and position Moog to be in unique positions to offer innovative solutions.
- Demonstrate the charisma, trust and technical acumen for driving to resolution for complex issues involving engineering, operations, supply chain, quality, programs, and customer considerations, and ambiguous requirements. Prioritize cross-functional collaboration to achieve division and group-level goals. We are all in this together!
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working across business units and influencing departmental groups for support in executing is a plus.
- Experience with electro-mechanical, thermal batteries, controllers, test equipment, thrusters, and/or attitude control systems is a plus.
