Requirements

  • BS, MS in one of the following: Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Materials Science or Physics
  • Minimum 8 years of Technical work experience
  • Knowledge of Failure analysis techniques, and tools
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Databases
  • Practical working knowledge and application of SPC
  • Proficiency in the application of DOEs and ANOVA
  • Ability to travel 0-20% of time

Responsibilities

  • Obtain parts for failure analysis and perform investigation of the conditions prior to operation, factory build information and make a plan to perform systematic tear down and measurement to understand the root cause.
  • Ensure priority is given to fast-track FA for critical parts.
  • Document the failure analysis results in detail including word description, pictures, measurements, etc. as evidence to the results, and conclusions.
  • Work with in-house engineers, or quality personnel to utilize equipment to perform the failure analysis.
  • Utilize 3rd party labs as necessary for analysis that Bloom does not have inhouse capability.
  • Work cross functionally with Service, Install Quality, Reliability, SQE, and Logistics to address failures expeditiously.
  • Work cross functionally with Factory, Design, Install Quality, SQE to mitigate and prevent failures.
  • Build lessons learned into the next generation products.
  • Create metrics to measure failed parts, and turn around times for FA.
  • Determine the sampling plan for failed parts when repetitive symptoms are indicating a known problem.
  • Work with Engineering to “turn on” and “turn off” the failure modes in testing.
  • Work with controls team and the data analytics team to add detection of early symptoms of field issues that are happening after some time in the field.
  • Work with Engineering to improve self diagnostics of products to “annunciate” their potential failures based on changes in self monitored values.
  • Work with Fleet Analytics leader to inform of potential failure modes, and symptoms that may be indicative, so proactive sweeps can be done.
