Requirements

  • Ph.D. (4+ years experience) or M.S. (6+ years experience) in Materials Science, Polymer Science, Chemical Engineering, or other related field.
  • Working knowledge of material structure-property relationship and material characterization methods
  • Strong technical judgement and ability to convince others
  • Ability to work in a cross-functional environment
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Responsibilities

  • Utilize materials science and engineering principles to develop, identify appropriate materials and evaluate material properties, material processability as well as material-based product performance for medical device applications.
  • Provide technical leadership by identifying and delivering project opportunities such as new product development, continuous improvement, cost reduction, material supply mitigation, regulatory purposes et al.
  • Manage material related project or sub work-stream including developing charter/risk management, planning activities, executing studies, documenting learnings and providing communications to platform leaders and functional managers.
  • Develop lab capability for material characterization and analytical chemistry in support of product development projects and long term business needs.
  • Deliver technical solutions to complex problems such as product/process challenges during technology/product development and manufacturing.
  • Represent the organization as the primary technical contact and interact with external partners/ suppliers.
  • Participate in supplier qualification for raw material selection and conduct/coordinate tests on raw materials in order to ensure quality and regulatory compliance.
  • Work under minimal direction toward established long-range goals and objectives.
  • Mentor and train junior team members and foster a collaborative work environment.
  • Travel as required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Working experience in medical device industry is preferred
  • Strong project management and technical leadership
  • Knowledge of statistical analysis and six sigma methodologies
  • Self-motivated with a strong sense of urgency and willing to take hands on work
  • Strong learning agility
  • Ability to communicate and provide guidance to junior associates
