Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Physics or related area of expertise
  • 7+ years of engineering experience in product development with safety critical systems or related area of expertise
  • Ability to understand complex technical systems
  • Strong project management skills
  • Ability to provide technical leadership and mentorship to diverse global teams
  • Hands-on experience with hazard analysis, Fault Tree Analysis (FTA), software safety analysis, and other safety analysis tools and techniques
  • Familiarity with ISO 26262 and other functional safety standards such as IEC 61508, IEC 62304, or DO-178C
  • Understanding of applicable standards to this role such as ISO 21448, and UL 4600 etc.
  • Understanding of emerging standards of ISO 8800 AI/ML (Road vehicles — Safety and artificial intelligence) and ISO/TS 5083 (Road vehicles — Safety for automated driving systems — Design, verification and validation)
  • Understanding of fundamentals of Semiconductor and SoC (System on Chip)
  • Travel as required (<10%) domestic

Responsibilities

  • Lead a technical team of ADAS System Safety Engineers (Sensing/Perception, ADAS Sensors, ADAS Controllers) to develop systems safety analysis, hazard identification, and risk mitigations using both qualitative and quantitative methods align with GM System Safety Process and ISO26262
  • Lead System Safety strategy developments on new content to deploy safety strategies that balance System Safety with feature availability & performance
  • Lead application of agile methodologies to internal Safety Case work partnering closely with cross-functional teams
  • Support Safety of the Intended Functionality (SOTIF) approaches for new feature development
  • Employ varied analysis techniques including hazard analysis, SEFA, STPA, fault tree analysis, interface analysis, FMEA, software safety analysis etc. within responsible scope
  • Collaborate with product engineering, software engineering, development, verification, and validation teams to ensure consistent and sufficient safety strategy implementations across ADAS features
  • Guide development of external suppliers to facilitate timely delivery of safety critical system content
  • Stay abreast of new technology and safety analysis techniques
  • Mentor & develop internal and external organizational partners (including global teams) on safety critical system and process-specific knowledge

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in Engineering, Physics, or Computer Science
  • 10+ or more years of engineering experience with systems safety analysis, systems, or active safety features including Human machine interactions
  • Experience with Object Sensing technologies (camera, radar, lidar), sensor rationalization schemes and related limitations
  • Experience working with safety diagnostic monitors
  • Software design, analysis, development, validation
  • Machine learning, simulation methods and data acquisition
  • Knowledge of AI/ML
  • DFSS Black Belt
