Requirements

  • BSEE, BSME, Controls, Software Engineering, Mechatronics or similar; advanced degree preferred.
  • Minimum 8 years’ experience developing control systems for automated manufacturing equipment. Medical device industry experience is a plus.
  • Familiarity with regulated Quality Systems, especially medical device regulations is a plus.
  • Software proficiency in PLC programming (Beckhoff preferred) and HMI programming (Wonderware preferred).
  • Familiarity with higher level languages C/C++, LabVIEW, Matlab, Java, and Python a plus.
  • Experienced in industrial robot (Denso, Fanuc, Epson) programming.
  • Familiarity with pneumatic controls, sensors, vision systems, servos and other actuators.
  • Proven technical analytical skills including motion control algorithms and statistical methods.
  • Experienced in industrial network performance trouble shooting and optimization.
  • Knowledge of industrial communication protocols, such as EtherNet/IP, Modbus/TCP, EtherCAT and Serial/ASCII.
  • Experience managing the development of control systems for complex integrated equipment.
  • Proven ability to develop control systems that integrate electronic sensors, actuators, and motion control components to perform mechatronic tasks. Proven track record developing high quality, reliable industrial control systems.
  • Able to read and understand mechanical drawings and electrical schematic. Able to perform basic wiring and electrical circuit trouble shooting.
  • Ability to travel nationally and internationally. Travel requirements will be approximately 5%.

Responsibilities

  • Establish the optimal controls architecture to perform the specific set of operations for custom automated manufacturing and test equipment.
  • Define, build, and support the control systems for custom equipment. Write the software to run custom automated equipment, including controller, HMI, data acquisition, and networking. Strive to create software that is organized, structured, documented, maintainable, and reusable.
  • Ensure manufacturing equipment designs meet functional, safety, ergonomic, and documentation requirements, to facilitate efficient production operation across Intuitive’s US-based and international sites.
  • Write V&V protocols, drive V&V execution, and write V&V reports for equipment and processes.
  • Provide controls-related root-cause analysis and technical support to on-going production operations.
  • Specify the control requirements for, and manage the creation of, manufacturing equipment which can be designed and fabricated by third parties.
  • Drive cross-functional team projects focused on process and equipment development.
  • Serve as mentor for early-career engineers in the AET group.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Medical device industry experience is a plus.
