Requirements

  • Valid DL
  • Special Education Texas Teaching Certification
  • Administrator Certification (preferred)
  • Monolingual or Bilingual
  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university
  • Master’s Degree from an accredited college or university (preferred)
  • Minimum five years Special Education teacher/coordinator experience with proven leadership roles in the public or charter school-based setting
  • Strong understanding of special education, including student needs, curriculum, ARD procedures, and special education programming
  • Familiarity with PLAAFP (Present Levels of Academic Achievement and Functional Performance) and development of IEP goals and objectives
  • In-depth knowledge of federal law I.D.E.A. (Individuals with Disabilities Education Act)
  • Skilled in delivering professional development and providing support to teachers and paraprofessionals
  • Proficient in state assessments and curriculum standards
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills

Responsibilities

  • Monitor and support special education students, including managing caseloads, implementing IEPs, and maintaining student records in compliance with TEA and district policies, including cyclical review
  • Communicate regularly with school staff, families, and outside agencies about student progress, needs, and the special education process
  • Attend and follow up on ARD Committee meetings, ensuring proper planning, placement, and implementation of decisions
  • Provide training and technical support to staff on case management, IEP development, progress reporting, and compliance procedures
  • Maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical and professional standards
  • Manage data and documentation, including audits, state performance reporting, and use of systems like Frontline
  • Support campus-wide efforts in assessment, intervention, behavior management, and inclusion practices
  • Collaborate and mediate with stakeholders in times of conflict or crisis, serving as a liaison and problem-solver
  • Demonstrate strong communication, time management, and organizational skills, with the ability to work independently and build relationships based on trust and respect
