Responsibilities
- Recommends changes to processes, incorporating good EHS practices and training, in areas such as PPE, equipment use, used equipment and waste management, spill prevention.
- Leads the implementation of EHS compliance programs in areas such as emergency preparedness, spill prevention, universal waste, ladder safety, defensive driving, aerial lift, electrical safety, PPE, hazardous material handling, emergency response and life safety.
- Reviews and offers suggestions for the selection of health and safety equipment to maintain and improve the company’s health and safety programs.
- Oversees the development, update and roll-out of EHS procedures in areas such as ergonomics, illness and injury prevention and building safety.
- Implement and track programs to reduce environmental impacts, such as energy efficiency, waste reduction/recycling, idle-time reduction.
- Prepares content for use in EHS training programs.
- Inputs and reviews data in EHS system. May also function as EHS system SME.
- Provides guidance for and leads EHS committees to improve the effectiveness of EHS processes.
- Using data from company databases and metrics, prepares presentations for, and conducts EHS meetings for frontline employees and peer work groups.
- Recommends, reviews and tracks corrective action to closure where EHS opportunities exist.
- Proactively identifies risks and opportunities for safety or environmental improvement.
- Works with employees to ensure standard tools and equipment minimize risks to health and safety.
- Works independently under the direction of supervisor.
- Evaluates both office and technician ergonomics and recommends approaches and improvements.
- Researches federal, state, and local standards and regulations, as needed. Acts in an advisory capacity on regulatory compliance matters.
- Facilitates compliance with federal, state and local EHS regulations, and interacts with regulatory agencies, as appropriate.
- Conducts field safety observations (FSO) on technicians and participates in ride-outs with supervisors while they are performing FSOs.
- Uses existing EHS Management Information System (MIS) databases to document and investigate accidents, log inspections, and manage corrective actions.
- Serves as the point of contact for emergency personnel, for events including accidents or environmental releases.
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate’s Degree (preferred)
- Combination of coursework and experience or extensive related professional experience (considered)
