Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, CIS, MIS, Math, or related field.
  • Ten or more years of education and/or relevant experience may be considered to satisfy educational and years-of-experience requirements for this posting.
  • 10+ years of hands-on experience in IT operations, with a strong focus on Linux systems and VMware.
  • Expert level knowledge of VMWare vSphere, ESXi, VMware Horizon.
  • Familiarity with enterprise storage systems and networking fundamentals.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills; desire and ability to document configurations in support of a larger team.
  • Good interpersonal skills with a strong focus on listening and questioning to derive the best solutions.
  • Ability and motivation to learn new technologies quickly and with minimal support and guidance.
  • Ability to present ideas and solutions to challenging issues; then lead and implement those ideas.
  • Ability to present ideas and concepts in a team environment that values data-driven decisions.
  • Understanding other server technologies such as Windows or Unix.
  • Understanding of ITIL processes.
  • Strong project management skills and attention to details with a customer focus is critical.

Responsibilities

  • Administer, monitor, and troubleshooting Linux-based systems (e.g., RHEL, CentOS, Ubuntu).
  • Manage VMware vSphere infrastructure, including ESXi hosts, vCenter Server, virtual machines, and resource optimization.
  • Perform regular system maintenance, updates, and patch management.
  • Handle server provisioning, configuration management, and automation (e.g., using Ansible, Puppet, or similar tools).
  • Maintain system security, user access controls, and data protection strategies.
  • Support backup and disaster recovery solutions and ensure data integrity.
  • Monitor system performance and provide capacity planning recommendations.
  • Troubleshoot complex technical issues and coordinate with cross-functional teams when necessary.
  • Create and maintain up-to-date documentation for infrastructure systems and procedures.
  • Participate in on-call support rotations and handle incident escalation.
  • Lead infrastructure improvement projects and mentor junior team members.
  • Interact with Rocket development teams to define system and business requirements to support Rocket Software go-to-market efforts.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand application requirements, develop, implement, and maintain scalable and secure solutions that meet the business needs.
  • Support key technology initiatives including disaster recovery, merger and acquisition activities, capacity planning, and budgeting.
  • Develop automations for monitoring, performance optimization, availability, and security of Rocket systems.
  • Implement and maintain security measures to protect systems and data and ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations.
  • Perform day-to-day system administration and tasks for assigned systems.
  • Recommend strategies and standards for all infrastructures.
  • Provide timely problem resolution, incident management, and root cause analysis.
  • Perform duties following all company standards regarding engagement, change management, and escalations.
  • Participate in special projects and perform other duties as required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • VMware Certified Professional (VCP) or higher.
  • Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE) or equivalent certification.
  • Experience with hybrid cloud environments (e.g., AWS, Azure).
  • Knowledge of containerization (Docker, Kubernetes) is a plus.
  • Proficiency in scripting (e.g., Bash, Python) and automation tools.
