Requirements
- PhD in Proteomics, Analytical Chemistry, Biochemistry
- 6+ years of experience in mass spectrometry
- Deep understanding of proteomics sample preparation
- Extensive knowledge of data processing software
- Experience to monitor and troubleshoot instrumentation, including mass specs, and associated LCs, to maintain up time
- Strong understanding and experience in documenting all sample preparation, method development notes, author scientific reports/publications and protocols/SOPs
- Strong collaboration skills and the ability to work in / lead cross functional or multidisciplinary projects / teams, with a specific focus on how core technology is successfully applied to achieve the broader goals
- Outstanding organizational skills and the ability to work independently
- Ability to communicate critical analysis of their own and others colleagues work effectively.
Responsibilities
- Lead the proteomics group at Altos Labs Mass Spec Innovation Hub, working closely with the Hub director to determine the most effective way to utilize the state-of-the-art instrument park to obtain the best possible data that will meet the needs of the hub users.
- Meet with hub users to design and execute strategies to meet their analytical needs, using the appropriate technology and scan mode, and experimental design.
- Supervise junior colleagues to execute workflows to meet the highest possible standards, including QC checks that will be monitored and documented throughout the experiment.
- Responsible for implementation of established and contemporary methodologies, keeping abreast with the literature to remain current with best practices and techniques e.g. PELSA, ABPP, TPP. Able to offer and utilize a broad base of knowledge and skills in the specialized skillset to support complex problems in an innovative way, understanding the connections between different research areas and Altos as a whole.
- Offering strong knowledge, guidance and advice to enable and advance good high risk, high reward reproducible research.
- Partner closely with our scientists and research team members to maintain the highest standards throughout the entire process of sample generation, collection, processing, data collection, QC, and analysis.
- This role is hands-on including sample preparation and mass spec data acquisition. You will be expected to maintain instrument performance and troubleshoot issues to resolve them quickly.
- This role will have substantial data analysis responsibilities, both independent and in collaboration with others, using various softwares (commercial and in-house developed platforms), where you will be expected to test the impact of different parameters to gain the most of the acquired data.
- You will be expected to present results/findings, and collaborate with research associates/assistants, data scientists, and other colleagues throughout Altos. Looking to seek and integrate their input to critically analyse data and scientific arguments together with the ability to communicate feedback appropriately.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior management of a proteomics platform
- Experience with DDA, Targeted, DIA, TMT, FAIMS, PTM analysis.
