Requirements

  • Knowledge of energy (electric and gas) system operations, planning, and emergency response, including market and regulatory structures.
  • Knowledge of energy system analysis methodologies and principles.
  • Skill in oral presentation and written communication techniques.
  • Communication and sponsor interaction skills.
  • Knowledge of gas and electric transmission and distribution systems.
  • Knowledge of electric and gas components to support vulnerability assessment and systems analysis.
  • Experience in assessing, at both national and local levels, energy system vulnerabilities.
  • Experience managing and contributing to team efforts.
  • Skill in effectively producing end results through self-motivated efforts.
  • Skill in independently conceiving, planning, and conducting research that has considerable influence on scientific knowledge or technological developments.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and support the development and implementation of research methodologies to analyze interdependent energy systems and related infrastructure.
  • Support the implementation of Argonne’s energy resilience program through outreach to industry and government partners.
  • Identify and nurture relationships with new program sponsors, including capture management of funding opportunities.
  • Work with Argonne staff to articulate both technical value and business value of Argonne’s work to sponsors and industry partners.
  • Represent Argonne at conferences, seminars, and meetings.
  • Provide technical reviews of and expert advice/guidance on assumptions/approaches/results of various energy reliability and resilience planning studies for DOE and other sponsors.
