Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
  • Minimum 15 years of experience in electrical engineering in a space environment.
  • Demonstrated experience with FPGA SoC and verilog/VHDL for a space environment.
  • Advanced experience in HID designs in Altium Designer or other ECAD.
  • Strong understanding of applicable codes and standards including PCB and PCBA design.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Familiarity with spacecraft power systems, avionics, and communication subsystems.

Responsibilities

  • Enable continuous integration of hardware/software systems to maintain configuration management while allowing a multiple to one platform integration.
  • Define coding standards for the LabView environment and provide mentorship for the bottoms up adoption of the standard.
  • Lead the rapid design, development, and testing of high-reliability electrical systems for spacecraft engineering and development efforts.
  • Define and Implement component and system level Fault Detection Isolation and recovery methods for component and spacecraft design including Tri-Mode Redundancy (TMR), Scrubbing, Voting, Fail-Over, and graceful degradation.
  • Collaborate with system architecture development across cross functional teams.
  • Lead preliminary and critical design reviews to support program requirements.
  • Conduct and review derating analysis and worst-case circuit analysis.
  • Power supply design and analysis.
  • Drive requirements capture, component selection, analysis, schematic capture, prototyping, bring-up, debugging, documentation, manufacturing, and test for electrical designs.
  • Perform system-level integration of electrical subsystems, including hardware and software interfaces.
  • Perform first article testing, unit level testing, and production testing.
  • Support hardware through production, integration, and launch.
  • Work with experts from other teams and departments to drive changes that make the system more efficient, manufacturable, and reliable and to ensure compliance with all relevant industry standards, regulations, and quality assurance processes.
  • Define validation approach and create development and qualification testing campaigns to exercise designs to their limits and ensure reliable hardware.
  • Develop and maintain documentation for electrical systems and components, including design specifications, test plans, and operating procedures.
  • Participate in all aspects of the product development lifecycle, from concept and requirements definition to product release and post-release support.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers on the team.
  • Continuously improve electrical engineering processes and practices to drive innovation and efficiency.
  • Mentor junior engineers to improve design skill sets increase capabilities within the organization.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in electrical engineering or related field.
  • Flight experience operating and troubleshooting first of their kind spacecraft.
  • Experience with spacecraft electrical system design and testing.
  • Knowledge of industry standards and regulations related to spacecraft electrical systems.
  • Experience with simulation tools such as SPICE, MATLAB, and Simulink.
  • Experience working in a fast-paced, startup environment or a similarly dynamic setting.
