Requirements
- Strong understanding of tax laws and regulations, as well as accounting principles.
- Strong analytical, strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail in tax calculations and reporting, identify tax calculations and reporting opportunities and risks.
- Ability to work with financial data and utilize tax software and tools effectively.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with colleagues and external stakeholders.
- Compliance with maintaining confidentiality of sensitive tax information.
- Knowledge of where and how to research as well as resolve complex tax issues.
- Proven ability to work in an organized manner with the ability to manage time effectively to meet strict deadlines.
- Advanced excel skills knowledge including v-look ups, sum-if and pivot tables.
- Broad training in a related field usually acquired through high school level education or work-related experience in Payroll and or Accounting. Degree preferred.
- 10-years minimum related experience for US and Canada tax and payroll processing.
Responsibilities
- Ensure compliance with accurate and timely payroll tax reporting and withholding responsibilities.
- Find solutions to payroll tax irregularities by gathering and analyzing data and performing modifications.
- Establish tax requirements for items such as fringe benefits, deductions and earnings codes.
- Conduct ongoing research on Federal, state and local tax laws, regulations and rulings to provide guidance and support for tax related decisions.
- Collaborating with internal and external stakeholders, internal teams, external auditors, and tax authorities to address tax related matters and provide insights on tax implications for business decisions.
- Subject matter expert for US payroll and all global tax related items.
- Reconcile and record weekly company-wide payroll cash and payroll tax liability for all US entries.
- Reconcile quarterly payroll tax returns, remitted and filed by ADP. Review and reconcile any discrepancies. Address all periodic exceptions and make necessary adjustments.
- Work closely with Payroll Specialists to coordinate adjustments and amendments needed to assist at quarter end and year end to ensure accurate and timely reports of Wages and Taxes.
- Send all tax agency notices to third party vendor (ADP). Record responses, complete necessary actions to resolve the tax issues and provide Accounting and Corporate Tax Team with notices for additional tax payment and/or refunds.
- Respond to Service Now Tickets as assigned.
- Research and resolve in depth payroll tax issues across various taxing agencies that include Federal, State and Local agencies. Issue request to get penalties abated.
- Set up new tax accounts for state and local agencies and track progress to receive account number and tax rate.
- Lead the process at year end and partner with third party provider to reconcile taxes for both US and Canada to produce year- end tax documents.
- Facilitate and actively participate in both internal and external audits for payroll reviews.
- Research any W2 errors and produce W-2C and 941x as needed.
- Work closely with the stock team to review all tax rates and make necessary updates within Workday and/or ADP.
- Manage relationship with payroll vendors effectively.
- Stay up to date with changes in payroll taxes by attending classes or conferences offered by payroll vendors.
- Other responsibilities or projects as assigned by the Senior Payroll Manager.
Preferred Qualifications
- Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) preferred.
- ADP and Workday (preferred) payroll system experience within the last 5 years.
