Requirements
- 5+ years of outsourcing management or equivalent experience in game development.
- Proven ability to collaborate with internal and external artists to deliver industry-leading environment art.
- Strong foundation in traditional art principles, with expertise in light, shade, color, and detail.
- Proficient in hard-surface modeling, foliage/organics, PBR materials, and level art kit creation.
- Intermediate to senior-level experience with AAA game engines and content pipelines.
- Exceptional communication, documentation, and team collaboration skills.
- Ability to create detailed visual references, procedures, and engine requirements for external teams.
- Passion for mentoring artists to maximize project impact.
Responsibilities
- Project domain owner for external environment art production
- Defines outsourcing strategies, vendor selection criteria, and negotiates contracts.
- Collaborate with internal and external art teams to ensure high-quality environment art under the guidance of the Outsource Director.
- Provide clear, actionable feedback from concept to final 3D execution, ensuring consistency, efficiency, and alignment with the project’s art direction.
- Maintain best practices, quality control, and a cohesive visual style across all environment assets.
- Review, implement, and refine incoming and outgoing assets to support outsourcing workflows.
- Mentors and develops mid-level and junior team members, often shaping departmental processes.
- Leads internal and external teams through ambiguous or high-impact situations to ensure seamless collaboration and delivery.
- Contribute pipeline and workflow improvements to meet internal project needs.
- Partners with art directors, leads, production, and design teams to deliver project goals.
Preferred Qualifications
- Deep passion for game development and familiarity with Blizzard’s visual style.
- Strong organizational skills and experience as a lead artist or mentor.
- Knowledge of Blizzard game aesthetics and a desire to push creative boundaries.
- Proficiency with the use of production tracking tools such as Shotgrid / JIRA / Airtable.
