Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, mechanical, materials science, or a related field
  • Knowledge of techniques and tools that promote effective analysis; ability to determine the root cause of organizational problems and create alternative solutions that resolve these problems
  • Understanding of effective communication concepts, tools, and techniques; ability to effectively transmit, receive, and accurately interpret ideas, information, and needs through the application of appropriate communication behaviors
  • Knowledge of effective self-management practices; ability to manage multiple concurrent objectives, projects, groups, or activities, making effective judgments as to prioritizing and time allocation
  • Knowledge of a given technology and various application methods; ability to develop and provide solutions to significant technical challenges

Responsibilities

  • Design, maintain, and manage the component design and development of rubber components for Caterpillar engines and machines, ensuring the integration of new products, processes, or technologies to meet customer needs
  • Lead projects related to component development and performance evaluations, including project management documentation
  • Participate in trial and production rubber molding processes, contributing to issue resolution and understanding variables affecting results
  • Manage component testing, validation, and audits, and communicate results in a concise and accurate manner with data
  • Design new test fixtures and manage the maintenance of local test benches, including spare parts
  • Identify, analyze, and resolve issues with components, test procedures, or test equipment
  • Collaborate and support process partners, such as internal customers and manufacturing facilities, to enhance product and process performance
  • Support NPI, CPI, BIQ and Assurance of Supply projects using performance testing for failure predictions, concept evaluation, and benchmarking
  • Ensure projects are completed on time and within budget

Preferred Qualifications

  • Hands-on individual with a willingness to work in a lab environment
  • Strong mechanical aptitude with proficiency in data acquisition systems
  • Experience with 6 Sigma and PPAP methodologies
  • Proficiency and working knowledge of Instron and/or MTS hydraulic test machines
  • Proficiency in MTS or Instron test controllers and data acquisition systems
  • Proficiency in FEA, Creo, Teamcenter, GD&T, and drawing release processes
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Project or other project planning tools
