Requirements
- A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited undergraduate institution.
- A Juris Doctor degree from a top-tier law school with a minimum of 5 years of directly relevant commercial real estate legal, property management and lease administration or regulatory and compliance experience (law firm or in-house).
- History of leading individuals, teams and/or projects in one or more distinct disciplines of legal and/or operational subject matter.
- Proficiency and confidence in legal contract and transaction management; resource utilization (managing inside and outside legal teams); property management / lease administration; lease and contract interpretation and risk analysis.
- Membership in good standing with a United States State Bar, and eligible for Arizona in-house admission.
- Exceptional organizational, communication, time management and prioritization skills.
- Demonstrated capability & commitment to critical thinking, issue-spotting and problem solving.
- Ability to differentiate between theoretical and real-world considerations in a real estate department that requires a balance between risk management and efficient decision-making.
- Enthusiasm and energy reflective of your ability to be a self-starter and own projects, while being receptive to continued learning and growth, ready to follow an already-established process & approach where applicable.
Responsibilities
- Serve as an advisor, project leader and strategist for key legal projects as associated with Real Estate Legal’s Transactions, Portfolio Management and Licensing teams.
- Support strategy building and lead execution of key real estate transactional and portfolio management efforts, focusing on ensuring core tasks are appropriately managed and completed to help the company improve results, save cost or better utilize existing real estate assets or resources.
- Support the creation and maintenance of legal project management systems and ensure transactions and projects are proactively managed toward timely and successful results.
- Provide reliable and contextualized legal counsel on lease and contract interpretations, transactional initiatives, landlord / tenant matters, including litigation matters and other core transactional and property management matters, while guiding and training other team members on such legal workflow.
- Support research and analysis efforts as related to regulatory licensing and compliance, while guiding or training other team members where appropriate or applicable.
- Serve as the go-to resource for company leaders inside and outside the Legal Department on key projects and initiatives while mobilizing and guiding the team to provide appropriate support to leverage time & resources effectively.
- Maintain and display subject matter expertise in one or more of the key areas of core responsibility – real estate, regulatory licensing and property management, developing progressively greater familiarity with how to guide and advise the business in each of those areas as responsibilities expand.
- Understand the goals of the business, while balancing strategy, risk management and efficient execution, demonstrating the ability to identify and resolve challenges and roadblocks across projects.
- Ensure timely and relevant information is relayed to Department leaders (within and outside Legal) in a manner that facilitates efficient and well-informed strategic decisions, acting with a bias toward action.
Preferred Qualifications
- Licensing experience (dealership, auction and business licensing) and Regulatory Compliance a plus.
