Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree
- 5 years of experience in cost estimating, manufacturing, product design, engineering, automotive purchasing or related
- Proficiency in IT systems or advanced Excel skills.
- Experience with spreadsheets, estimating pricing models, and cost management tools.
- Demonstrated ability to add value and optimize costs.
- Knowledge of various manufacturing/automotive processes and components, with the ability to evaluate and analyze associated costs.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and assignments with a high degree of autonomy and complexity.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills to build relationships with global team members and cross-functional peers.
- Ability to use or learn GMCO$T (internal GM cost estimating software).
- Ability to travel 10% of the time domestically and internationally.
Responsibilities
- Analyze, organize, and understand large amounts of data.
- Comprehend manufacturing processes, including regional differences in manufacturing assumptions.
- Use project plans, labor requirements, and other factors to estimate project costs.
- Partner actively with the internal GPSC purchasing team to provide fair yet competitive component costs for GM.
- Assimilate large amounts of cost data and communicate information efficiently to the larger GM team.
- Occasionally travel to supplier facilities for enhanced costing collaboration and support.
- Support assigned GM SMT/PMT from a tooling and piece price perspective.
- Solve unique and sometimes complex problems using data-driven analysis to identify solutions, establish next steps, and manage open items.
- Ability to lead change, resolve conflicts, and influence without direct authority.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Technical Management or Engineering is a plus.
- Experience in manufacturing, product design / engineering, or purchasing.
- Experience at automotive OEM’s or other product manufacturing.
- A desire to learn details of automotive components, manufacturing, and financial cost drivers.
- Ability to gather insights from data.
- Experience estimating propulsion parts, forging, casting, machining, as well as experience with estimating painted and chromed plastics.
