Requirements
- 6+ years proven track record practicing law in large US or UK law firms or in-house at major US or European companies, demonstrating continual growth and the ability to succeed in those environments.
- Strong academic credentials and qualification to practice in at least one US state with the ability to become licensed in Florida or Washington State as in-house counsel.
- Ability to work autonomously and collaboratively as needed, flexing the approach as the matter requires.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to explain sophisticated legal issues clearly and simply.
- Outstanding analytical skills with a business-centric focus on risk.
- Excellent time management skills and experience leading to a diverse workload and challenging stakeholder demands.
- Be an excellent teammate, self-motivated, able to demonstrate a history of optimally resolving sophisticated legal issues, and able to successfully deliver sound and clear legal risk analysis advice in a fast-paced, iterative business setting!
- Ability to work cross-functionally and build consensus among various team members while maintaining a compliant approach.
- Ability to accommodate working with East Coast time zones and occasional travel.
Responsibilities
- Identify, interpret, and apply applicable legal and regulatory requirements and determine their implications for the business.
- Provide guidance regarding developments in federal and state laws regarding the company’s animal healthcare/pharmaceutical verticals.
- Partner with the business to craft and implement Chewy’s prescription service hub for animal health and related services provided by and to the veterinary community.
- Draft and negotiate tech, pharmacy, and healthcare contracts, including SaaS agreements, Terms and Conditions, Pharmaceutical Master Purchase Agreements/Vendor Terms, and Master Service Agreements.
- Draft customer-facing online and offline agreements, including end-user license Agreements, Privacy Policies, and Terms of Use.
- Review and assist in the implementation of all healthcare-related tech projects within the organization.
- Partner with various business clients to develop actionable risk mitigation strategies from the beginning of projects to their “launch” dates, keeping in mind legal, privacy, and compliance issues.
- Perform legal analysis of current and proposed business structures and drive legal workstreams for related launches for the business.
- Perform regulatory analysis of potential new business lines, providing the business with pragmatic guardrails.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in healthcare or pharmacy law is a plus, particularly if it is in the e-commerce or virtual space.
- Experience working in e-commerce or for SaaS providers is also a plus.
- Working knowledge of FDA Drugs and Device regulatory / compliance for human and or animal drugs is also desired but not required.
