Requirements

  • M.S. degree in Civil, Structural, Engineering required.
  • 9+ years of experience in structural analysis and design of structural concrete, prestressed concrete and steel structures.
  • Fluency on ASCE 61 and PIANC Seismic design of Port Structures Guidelines is a plus.
  • Registered professional engineer in the United States, or ability to obtain within 12 months of joining SGH.
  • Ability to effectively work independently and in a team environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines.
  • Communication skills: excellent written, oral and verbal communication skills; Ability to convey information to internal and external clients clearly. Spanish speaking is a plus.
  • Problem-solving ability: capability to solve minor or complex problems using data, logic, and judgment. Strong attention to detail with excellent analytical skills.
  • Ability to travel for project site visits, client meetings, and business development, including some overnight travel and international travel.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and an acceptable Motor Vehicle Report.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a team of talented marine designers as an essential part of the marine project delivery.
  • Lead on designs, inspection, evaluation, and analysis of a variety of marine, waterfront and port structures, including buildings.
  • Review calculations for project components that predominantly include structural concrete, prestressed concrete and steel elements, at locations of high seismicity and hurricane exposure.
  • Work with the principal-in-charge, senior project managers, and junior staff to plan and execute projects.
  • Interact and coordinate with clients, contractors, and other project partners.
  • Serve as a project manager on select projects including management of budgets, schedules, and staffing.
  • Execute and manage development of construction drawings, structural calculation packages, and technical specifications.
  • Provide construction administration and field observation services with the opportunity to travel to foreign countries where projects are located.
  • Assist with training, mentoring, and managing junior staff.
  • Assist in proposal development and business development efforts.
  • Pursue professional activities to gain professional recognition.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Fluency on ASCE 61 and PIANC Seismic design of Port Structures Guidelines is a plus.
  • Spanish speaking is a plus.
