Responsibilities
- Lead the Institute in achieving its strategic goals.
- Identify potential partnerships, industry groups, peer academic institutions, and other key constituencies across a broad array of industries and technologies.
- Create comprehensive strategic plans for the Institute, tailored to the opportunities and goals of the Institute.
- Conduct annual review and propose modifications to the Institute strategic plan to reflect changes in revenue, new opportunities for projects and/or personnel, and ensure timely communications with Institute founders and other WashU officials as appropriate.
- Daily administration of Institute personnel, projects, and functions, ensuring responsiveness to policies and other limitations or special conditions related to complex relationships across multiple departmental and institutional lines within and external to WashU.
- Oversight of regulatory and other policies including relevant lobbying laws, fiscal management, human resources, information systems, data-sharing, intellectual property issues, student and graduate fellow training programs, and relevant funding source rules and guidelines.
- Development of Institute’s annual budget, including project/program-specific budgets, communications and annual report budget, and events budgets.
- Works closely with Danforth campus and Law School financial officials to ensure accurate and timely information exchange related to Institute finances.
- Oversight and guidance for Institute and/or other specified WashU administrative assistants in obtaining quotes for goods and services, payment of valid invoices, payroll for Institute employees, and reconciliation of incurred costs to designated revenue centers.
- Prepare quarterly business reports for the Institute Directors to ensure resources are allocated according to designated priorities.
- Oversight and management of the Institute’s substantive projects, such as white papers, grants, colloquia, conferences, educational programs, and other events.
- Oversee the generation and development of Institute projects and ensure that this process unfolds smoothly.
- Ensure proposals are consistent with the Institute mission and strategic plan, investigate funding announcements, and coordinate the drafting of project forms or proposals.
- Ensure that projects are managed professionally, ensuring timely completion of program and project-related tasks, including Institute annual report, progress reports, drafts, proposals and other scholarly documents prepared by Institute fellows, WashU faculty, and other collaborators, and activities and documentation related to project closure and archiving.
- Administer Institute educational programs, including assistance in course and special event planning, advertising/recruiting, preparation and distribution of course materials, and oversight of designated Institute or WashU staff related cost accounting for educational activities.
- Develop event plans, budget projections, and coordinate logistics and services for the annual Institute symposium and other Institute-sponsored public conferences and private events, including visits by invited guests, speakers, recruits, and scholars.
- Participate in and manage events to ensure high-quality and successful outcomes.
- Ensure appropriate and timely payment of invoices related to Institute events, collection and archiving of Institute materials, video/audio recordings, authorizations, and other documents.
- Coordinate, plan, and execute Institute communications with internal and external audiences, including the media.
- Act as the primary Institute contact for WashU faculty, staff and group inquiries, inquiries from academic and other non-profit centers, foundations and institutions, corporations, government and regulatory agencies, commercial service providers, and law firms.
- Oversee content generation and management and maintenance of functionality for Institute website, including solicitation and professional review of content from Institute fellows and other contributors, communications with website development and service providers, monitoring of website usage and tracking services, networking and embedded links to other websites, and accuracy of reporting Institute events and news.
- Coordinate Institute communications with internal and external audiences, including the media. Responsible for creating and maintaining a public relations and media plan for the Institute.
Preferred Qualifications
- JD, MD or PhD in a field related to the Institute’s work.
