Requirements

  • Ability to correctly and objectively analyze data/results, interpret the outcome of experiments, and propose appropriate follow-ups.
  • Well versed in laboratory work and modern R&D practices.
  • Extensive knowledge of electrochemistry, battery science, and/or related fields that contribute to an understanding of the basic principles of development and selection of improvements to a unique energy storage technology.
  • Ability to contribute to the design and execution of non-routine or non-traditional experiments.
  • Ability to adapt and respond to continuously changing requirements in a fast-paced data-driven research environment.
  • Focused and independently driven to produce results, solve problems, and collect knowledge with minimal guidance.
  • Effectively utilizes literature searches, fundamental principles, and available data to inform work and evaluate technical feasibility of projects.
  • Acts as a professional and collaborative team member, demonstrating accountability, alignment, and trust within the R&D team, cross-functional teams, and other stakeholders.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, or related field required.

Responsibilities

  • Independently and creatively apply fundamental scientific principles to open-ended problems or goals and perform literature searches to extract relevant information. Use these principles to propose new experiments/technologies related to key goals on product cost and performance as well as to evaluate their feasibility. Takes a holistic view of implementing these improvements relative to the complex nature of a multifaceted product.
  • Collect, report, and treat data with a high level of integrity and ethics, while maintaining well written, accurate, and detailed technical documentation of experiments and methods.
  • Communicate and defend own work effectively, both orally and in writing. Provide concise and high-level reporting of technical data and its interpretation where necessary.
  • Plan and execute all work in a safe manner and in compliance with any applicable regulations and best practices.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of the development, analysis, testing, and production of advanced batteries, and remain abreast of technical developments in the field.
  • Troubleshoot effectively and solve scientific problems related to the design and improvement of our battery technology.
  • Design and execute non-routine experiments with a high degree of autonomy.
  • Bring knowledge in a specific battery related field to an interdisciplinary R&D team and work collaboratively with peers of varying backgrounds to achieve common goals.
  • Support and encourage other colleagues on best practices for thorough, efficient, and compliant experimentation.
  • Interface effectively with cross-functional teams and third-party entities to facilitate the implementation of R&D solutions.
  • Review project proposals and reports of peers to ensure experimental and writing standards are not overlooked.
  • Continually develops an understanding of zinc-based battery chemistries and their chemical aspects via the attendance of scientific meetings, close collaboration with colleagues, active surveyal of the literature, and ongoing experimentation.
  • Support testing labs, manufacturing facilities, and suppliers where needed.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree preferred.
  • Some experience working in an industrial R&D lab, preferably in the field of battery science preferred.
