Requirements

  • Ability to present complex science topics in compelling, easily understandable language for a full complement of media, including web content, social media posts, tour descriptions, and e-newsletters.
  • Ability to tailor content to resonate with both technical and non-technical audiences, maintaining clarity and engagement across diverse groups.
  • Skill in writing, information gathering, interviewing, and communication planning and development.
  • Experience in proofreading and editing complex content.
  • Knowledge of Standard American usage of English.
  • Familiarity with the Chicago Manual of Style and the Associated Press Stylebook.
  • Successful track record of managing multiple projects simultaneously and meeting tight deadlines.
  • Strong customer service orientation.
  • Passion for the mission of the Lab.

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, English, journalism, or a related scientific/technical discipline, and 4+ years of experience, or equivalent.

Responsibilities

  • Research, write and edit scientific and research-related communications, publications, press releases, news and feature stories, web content, and other materials.
  • Collaborate closely with scientists, researchers, and creative staff.
  • Work independently and as a team member in a dynamic, fast-paced work setting.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in a scientific or technical environment, such as a national laboratory, research university, or as a writer/journalist for a science-oriented publication desired.
