Requirements

  • Technical Degree (preferred) Risk Management, Environmental, Health & Safety or related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Three years’ experience in Environmental Safety & Health, to include training and auditing for Health & Safety compliance and implementing policies.
  • Must have general knowledge of OSHA regulations.
  • Experience conducting accident investigations and auditing for Health & Safety compliance.
  • Knowledge of federal, state and local policies and procedures regarding Environmental Safety & Health.
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills; good public speaking and presentation skills and ability to lead training courses.
  • Strong organization, prioritization and time management skills.
  • Ability to develop effective working relationships with internal and external contacts; ability to work with all levels of the company to achieve goals.
  • Ability to travel up to 50% during the workday and up to 25% overnight.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct safety audits and complete audit reports with recommendations for corrective action on findings. Follow-up with Retail Management on audits regarding findings to resolve issues and obtain set standard for audits.
  • Prepare and submit required information to the appropriate agency to include risk management plans, environmental reports, OSHA recordkeeping reports and other reports, as necessary.
  • Investigate accidents and incidents; interact with internal and external contacts as required to include OSHA safety officers during an OSHA inspection.
  • Review, follow-up and maintain safety audit reports and monthly safety minutes, distribute safety audit results, and conduct/oversee internal self-audits and related Environmental Health & Safety tasks.
  • Distribute correspondence on Environmental Health & Safety issues including safety committee minutes and safety awareness information for Retail facilities.
  • Identify Health and Safety training needs and develop materials and courses to meet such training needs.
  • Implement and/or revise Environmental Health & Safety policies/procedures; may participate in the development of new policies and practices.
  • Create and distribute safety materials for use by safety improvement teams, safety representatives and site leadership.
  • Provide safety education and training for Retail associates including powered industrial truck licensing, process safety management, maintenance safety training etc.
  • May be responsible to review and update environmental documents including pollution prevention plans, maintain Michigan underground storage tanks compliance program, and conduct environmental permitting activities, etc.
  • Maintain current knowledge of industry trends and best Safety/Environmental Health practices; make recommendations to improve current programs and processes and to ensure legal compliance.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Environmental Health and Safety Certification preferred.
  • OSHA certification or training preferred.
