Requirements

  • Graduate of a school of nursing: Required
  • One-year recent acute care RN experience: Required
  • Current RN license in state of practice: Required
  • Basic Life Support (BLS OR HS-BLS OR RQIBLS) certification: Required
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support): Required within 6 months of hire or transfer
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification: Required within 6 months of hire or transfer
  • AWHONN Advanced Fetal Monitoring course required on hire and every two years for experienced nurses: Required
  • Novice, or new to L&D RN’s will take the AWHONN Intermediate Fetal Heart Monitoring course during first 6-8 months of L&D orientation then AWHONN Advanced Fetal monitoring course every two years thereafter.: Required
  • Registered Nurse (RN) license in state of practice: Required
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) or Healthstream Advanced Cardiac Life Support (HS-ACLS) or RQIACLS: Required
  • Association of Women’s Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses (AWHONN): Required

Responsibilities

  • Actively participates in committees i.e. Shared Governance, and encourages actions that promote good guest relations with patients, families, physicians, co-workers and community. Listen, observe, act and follow through to completion. Pay attention to personal needs. Introduce self and give full attention. Display initiative, offer assistance, and remove obstacles.
  • Maintains current professional licenses and/or certifications as and when required by state or hospital mandate. Treats every co-worker as a professional. Coaches co-workers.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of, and adheres to all applicable professional/regulatory practice acts, state/ federal regulations, Twin Cities Hospital and Tenet Healthcare policies and procedures. Attends mandatory TENET ethics program. Conducts all hospital business within the highest standard of ethical behavior. Demonstrates reliability as evidenced by attendance records and punctuality. Completes work within the allotted time. Demonstrates skill in the use of equipment including its capabilities, limitations, and appropriate/ special applications. Uses key words at key times to communicate with physicians, patients, families and employees. Improves quality through continuing education.
  • Recognizes each person as an individual and is sensitive to individual differences. Appearance professional in dress and actions, positive body language and eye contact. Maintains confidentiality of all hospital related matters. Tries new approaches to problem solving, reaching goals and/or new programs. Supportive of change and/or serves as a change agent.
  • Protects hospital resources through appropriate and careful use of supplies and equipment. Practices safety related standards for both department and hospital including proper body mechanics and appropriate use of personal protective equipment. Demonstrates understanding and adherence to principles of infection control. Environment friendly – keeps it clean and clear. Reports safety hazards, accidents and injuries to the right person promptly.
