Requirements
- Proper safety training for lab equipment use.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
- MSc degree
- Experience with gas chromatograph, UV spectrophotometer, dissolved organic carbon analyzer.
- Experience with mass spectrometry and isotope ratio analysis.
- Experience with colorimetric analysis and statistical software.
- Experience with lab equipment maintenance and troubleshooting.
- Experience with sample preparation and analysis.
Responsibilities
- Send foliar samples for macro-nutrient analyses and interpretation of results.
- Analyze peat core samples for elements using X-ray Fluorescence.
- Support summer students in measuring greenhouse gas emissions using a gas chromatograph and incubation studies.
- Assist with fieldwork at Mer Bleue.
- Assist with installation and configuration of an ESI-Orbitrap isotope instrument and develop standard operating procedures.
- Support stable isotope measurements in biological and environmental samples.
- Contribute to data acquisition, quality control, and preliminary data analysis.
- Perform Hedley Sequential Fractionation Procedure of soil samples.
- Direct and organize research on greenhouse gas emissions/uptake in wetlands.
- Analyze gas samples using a gas chromatograph and analyze water samples for dissolved organic carbon and SUVA.
- Statistically analyze the relationship of greenhouse gas fluxes to physical and biological variables.
