Requirements

  • Proper safety training for lab equipment use.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • MSc degree
  • Experience with gas chromatograph, UV spectrophotometer, dissolved organic carbon analyzer.
  • Experience with mass spectrometry and isotope ratio analysis.
  • Experience with colorimetric analysis and statistical software.
  • Experience with lab equipment maintenance and troubleshooting.
  • Experience with sample preparation and analysis.

Responsibilities

  • Send foliar samples for macro-nutrient analyses and interpretation of results.
  • Analyze peat core samples for elements using X-ray Fluorescence.
  • Support summer students in measuring greenhouse gas emissions using a gas chromatograph and incubation studies.
  • Assist with fieldwork at Mer Bleue.
  • Assist with installation and configuration of an ESI-Orbitrap isotope instrument and develop standard operating procedures.
  • Support stable isotope measurements in biological and environmental samples.
  • Contribute to data acquisition, quality control, and preliminary data analysis.
  • Perform Hedley Sequential Fractionation Procedure of soil samples.
  • Direct and organize research on greenhouse gas emissions/uptake in wetlands.
  • Analyze gas samples using a gas chromatograph and analyze water samples for dissolved organic carbon and SUVA.
  • Statistically analyze the relationship of greenhouse gas fluxes to physical and biological variables.
